Losing your ability to speak at the age of seventeen; it’s not normal or fair.
But trauma, has a way of throwing normality out the window.

Dani lives anything but a normal life.
Her sister is married to one of the biggest names in Hollywood.
Her best friends are rockstar duo AD2.
And she has more love around her than most people experience in a lifetime.
But that doesn't change the fact their parents are dead.
Or that it's her fault.

It seems her new normal is being a mute, living on the inside, unable to actually communicate on the outside.
That is until Hollywood’s newest heartthrob Lincoln Greene hires her as his assistant for the summer.
He's gorgeous, completely unavailable, and unobtainable.
But that doesn't stop her from wondering...if things were different...would he want her?
If she was whole, would he be the other half?

Love the characters. An entertaining witty and romantic story. Realistic storyline with strong characters. Story contains drama, tragedy, passion, romance and humor. Anxious to learn Zane’s story.
  • ineffably fantastic

i’m truly astounded by how flawlessly cohesive this novel was. despite not knowing any of the characters from previous ‘seaside’ books, i understood each individuals’s role in “capture,” and how they contributed to dani & lincoln’s story. “capture” was a lovely rainy-day read. bravo.

I didn't like the execution of this story. In fact, this story started off wrong from the beginning. The introductions for the two main characters wasn't memorable or very clever. The primary focus of using the death of her parents as a reason to become mute seemed unrealistic considering she was still communicating by texting. The texting didn't provide the growth and development I hoped to gain in understanding Dani's emotions or feelings for being mute. She seemed to behave as any typical teenager with a phone glued to her fingers. Unfortunately, I didn't like Dani's character and not because she was mute. She was extremely immature with her foot stomping, pouting, and emoji using usage that had me cringing every time a scene included her. She was a seventeen year old teenager who behaved like an immature seventeen year old. She was mad and humiliated to be turned down by Lincoln for trying to follow the law and protect himself from going to jail. Capture was about Dani's character who chose to become mute when her parents died. Dani wasn't always mute in fact she was a popular cheerleader in high school who spoke nonstop about inconsequential things. Even while mute she still communicated about inconsequential things with her phone via texting. Lincoln's character was hollywoods heartthrob actor. At twenty-two he was a ladies man focused on his fame and fortune. As a favor to Jaymeson, he hired Dani to become his assistant, for the summer. Of course, since Dani chose to be mute this captured his attention as a challenge to unlock her voice. Despite my disinterest in this story's dialogue I continued to read hoping to gain insight about Dani choosing to become mute. Finding out was anticlimactic. This story was a chore to read and I took to skimming to finish. I hoped Rachel could redeem the story with a clever method for regaining Dani's voice, but that didn't happen. I was bothered by Rachel downplaying the significance of a twenty-two year wanting to have sex with a seventeen year old. Both characters had no parental role models guiding or educating them about the laws of having sex with a minor. I could make a long list of reasons why this story bothered me but I won't. It just was not suitable even for fiction.

    > > Judging a Book by it's Cover < < Unique composition. Models are featured in what looks like either a still frame or photo. Catchy title font. Strong author font. Subdued colors could allow the eye to skip right past it when hunting for a "next book" to buy and/or read. Synopsis is what grabbed at me. > > Looking Deeper < < POV ~> Alternating first-person POVs. Clearly defined, easy to follow. I received this book as the January "Book of the Month" when I signed up for a book club (listed below in disclaimer). Had I known this contained an underage lead character, I would not have accepted it. That said, I remembered how drawn I was to the synopsis and decided to continue on with it regardless (only after I began reading and it became clear that Dani was Seventeen). Hollywood Heartthrob, Lincoln is essentially a good guy, regardless of his reputation. Dani is a teen, right on the cusp of adulthood, that has experienced more devastation in her short lifetime than many experience in all. Together, they had an undeniable chemistry, which of course they tried to fight. I had not read the Seaside series, so the secondary characters were all new to me. Despite that, they were fairly easy to get to know without feeling left behind (too much). But there were strong bonds and deep history interwoven there that was hard to miss or ignore. Dialogue and cast interaction felt natural. The plot was energetic and the flow was extremely smooth - I rarely read a book in one sitting, but the writing and compelling storyline drew me in and would not allow me to set it aside until it was done. There were some minor conflicts that found timely resolutions. Predictability was very low. No shocking or fun surprises. Linc and Dani get an implied HEA which, presumably, will continue in the next book in the series just as the other couples' stories continued in the background of this one. The epilogue left the reader with a huge tease to Zane's story and I, for one, am dying to read KEEP. Overall, despite the lead female being underage, it did not scream of pedophilia. Dani, in many ways, had grown up much faster than other kids her age. The plot was dynamic... it made me laugh out loud, but it also had an elemental depth to it that made you feel sadness, anger, and grief as well. . I want more! If you've read the other Seaside books you would have meet Dani in Fall. If not you still get to know all of the amazing people Captured has as well as some from the Ruin series, even a sly mention from another ;) This book is what life is like after being drastically changed. How does someone move forward when you can't let go? How can you be who you're meant to be when your life is filled with fear? Life's hard enough without having that fear beat you down daily. Dani has any amazing support group from her friends and family but is it enough to pull her out? Life gets a little harder for Dani when the hot actor Lincoln Greene becomes her new boss for the summer. Getting a new assistant shouldn't be that hard for actor Lincoln Greene right? Just tell her what is needed, when and how. But What if your new assistant doesn't talk? What if you find her attractive and know she is off limits?
  • Absolutely Love Dani & Lincoln!!!

Rachel does it again! I received this ARC for an honest review. Capture is a crossover book from the Seaside series but can be read as a stand alone. This story grabbed me immediately with the character, Dani. Her world came apart when her parents were killed. She has many hurdles to overcome and although the love of her sister, brother-in-law Jayneson, and friends, they just cannot reach her. Enter in Lincoln... He's a handsome actor who Jaymeson has forced her to become his PA while they are filming. Will he be able to reach her and help her heal? You'll have to read this to find out. The journey both Dani and Lincoln go through together will make you laugh, but cry too. Rachel has a way of writing that you get lost and feel every raw emotion that happens throughout and this book did not disappoint. We also meet a new character, Zane, that I hope Rachel continues to develop and he is in another book. I know he has a story to tell too!
