Description

In his memoir American on Purpose, Craig Ferguson, host of The Late, Late Show, traces his journey from working-class Glasgow to the comedic limelight of Hollywood and American citizenship. Moving and achingly funny, American on Purpose moves from Ferguson’s early life as an alcoholic to his stint on The Drew Carey Show to his decision to become a U.S. citizen in its unique and honest look at his version of the American dream.

Love this book. Craig is hilarious and book is well written. I bought it on sale because I'm cheap. But that's alright since he's a millionaire. Would have probably bought it anyway.

I have been a huge fan of Craig's for years. But after reading his book, I love him even more...as though he is family. Having watched him, I knew a great part of this story...but now I know it all. I so admire his honesty...and the terrible struggles he had to go through to finally reach success. I am personally grateful that he didn't die that Christmas. I think he sealed my admiration for him on the shows when his parents died and he remembered them so touchingly as he spoke from his heart. Craig is more like Johnny Carson than anyone else. I watched Johnny in the 1960's when I was in high school and would stay up late watching him with my parents. He was always funny and never unkind...I think that is why Joan Rivers was not chosen to replace him. The freshness and spontaneity of Craig is unique in today's world. Who else would think of a horse made of two bodies...and garish ublue eye shadow who every week develops more and more into a real character...or a gay skeleton who has such a gift of voice impersonation and whom you can hear chuckling under his breath in those especially humorous moments. I do hope that one of these days the real Geoffrey Peterson will come out and take a seat next to Craig much as Ed McMahon did. Anyway, God bless you Craig. You are a good man.

I'm a big Ferguson fan and completely enjoyed his memoir. Craig is brutally honest about his demons and tells a cautionary tale without sounding too preachy. It also gives excellent career advice for those in entertainment and those who are trying to find there own way in life. The book is a love letter to Craig's parents, family & friends and a public apology to those affected by his alcoholism and drug use. It is a highly recommended read.

Touching and plainly spoken, Craig describes triumph and tragedy with grace and wit. Laughed out loud several times during this read. Definitely recommended, and Craig now has a fan for life.

It's code for unbelievably and fantastically written of a true journey of living life and pursuing ambition! Dang, I will never watch Craig ferguson on the late late show without feeling massive respect for him and his accomplishments and refined character. Craig Ferguson is truly a remarkable being. And I greatly appreciate this autobiography for it has taught me lessons that I didn't know could be learned.

Craig is an excellent writer. His stories are entertaining and they draw you into his world. There were times I couldn't put the book down. I was especially touched by his last chapter. Thank you Craig for sharing your story. It has helped me to appreciate myself and my life more than I did. I have hope that if I keep trying I can make something of my life and end up really enjoying my self, if not along the way at least in the end.
