The odds are against him. He's been given the humiliating assignment of mentoring the female tribute from District 12, the lowest of the low. Their fates are now completely intertwined - every choice Coriolanus makes could lead to favor or failure, triumph or ruin. Inside the arena, it will be a fight to the death. Outside the arena, Coriolanus starts to feel for his doomed tribute . . . and must weigh his need to follow the rules against his desire to survive no matter what it takes.

  • Fun but full of plot holes

It was fun to revisit the Hunger Games universe but the story had a lot of plot elements that were just not believable

this book is absolutely amazing and a perfect prequel to the hunger games series. it really gives a whole new view of the games and of snow.
  • Bravo to Suzanne Collins!

Having recently read the Hunger Games books for the first time and with the voices of long-standing Hunger Games fans in my ear, I tried to not get my hopes up too high. While I did not know entirely what to expect with this prequel I was still very excited to read it. It took me a week to get through the book and I have to say I am impressed. Not many authors are able to write a convincing prequel without it looking too much like a set up for the original story but Collins manages to not only set up the main character’s development but also expands the incredibly fascinating world of Panem even more to an extend I did not expect. While the beginning is rather slow moving it soon starts to pick up and shows the entire development of Coriolanus Snow into the ruthless future president of Panem. Anyway, a wonderful read for young adults and adults alike.
  • Boring

I can’t believe I’ve waited so long for this drawn out snooze fest. What I wanted was a history on how Snow became who he was and how he shaped the hunger games into what they were. What I got was fuller and fluff. Not good at all. I am highly disappointed.
  • Classic Suzanne Collins! Phenomal

Coraliabus Snow is a young boy still in the Academy, last year in the Capital and it is the beginning of the Hunger Games even the Capital sought to get the Districts more involved by having the students mentor and brainstorm ways for the citizens to become invested in the games almost like a sport or competition. Snow lives with his Grandmother and Cousin and he’s lost both his parents due to the rebellion of the districts for 8 years the Capital fought to regain control and finally they did and to remind citizens in districts of that they’ve created Hunger Games where 1 boy and 1 gurl from the 12 districts are chosen randomly to fight and murder their way to winning the games. Snow makes several critical suggestions regarding the games such as having people from the Capital bet on certain tributes and to send them gifts and food while inside the arena. He also falls in love his mentor a girl named Lucy Gray Baird. He helps her by giving her poison and letting modified snakes killers- smell her scent so she isn’t poisoned inside the arena- she wins but he’s caught by Capital and main Game Keeper, Dr Hale who everyone is convinced is a sociopath. She finds harsher crueler ways to torture and kill humans kids animals by texting them in her lab. She eventually grows fond of Snow and his ideals. Due to cheating he is sent to be a Peacekeeper he chose Distict 12 where Lucy is from. All things go really bad and he is forced to report his best friend to authorities, kill Lucy’s ex bf and his new GF, the mayors daughter. When Lucy asks him to run away with hi he accepts. On their trip she realizes he killed his BF by reporting him to authorities and she goes rogue trying to kill him. He shoots her and runs back to the barrack and following day he’s sent to the INTELLIGENT MILITARY ACHOOL YOUNGEST IN HIS CLASS IN DISTRICY 2 a great one. On way there train stops at Capital tells him to report to the Academy. He does and his old Game Keeper Dr Hale is awaiting him. She tells him that his banishment to Peacekeeper academy and barracks was just a test- he is going to the University and to be working directly her. He then becomes so close to his DEAD BF rich parents that they essentially adopt him and give him unlimited access to money in which he spends extravagantly reliving the days in which SNOWS LAND ON TOP- a phrase Tigris, his cousin and he said when things were bleak and they were starving and poor after the war and what his parents and grandmother had ingrained in their heads. He eventually becomes extremely successful with the HUNGER GAMES at the university and has all the money he can need. This is the life and childhood of President SNOW who screwed woth Katniss and Peeta- he was a sociopath then and the readers have a real inside perspective to his childhood, how twisted and detached he was towRds other human beings and how he genuinely believed humans are more evil and animalistic barbaric than they are innately good- he doesn’t realize he’s using himself as that model- not humanity as a whole. So it is he and Dr Hale who substantially created a horrific, inhumane and torturous GAME out of the “REAPINGS” and forced the citizens everywhere to watch it or they’d be arrested. They made an exorbitant fortune off the backs of dead children and took great pleasure in what they deemed imaginative and entertaining games and justified the gruesome murderous deaths of children as an imperative necessity for control or chaos and conflict would result in their demise as a species and citizens of Panem. WELL WELL DONE!
  • a little slow but amazing ending.

i really liked this book! i thought the beginning was a bit slow though, i would’ve liked the games to start off sooner & drag on maybe a bit longer, but i loved this book. i agree, it was somewhat difficult to finish, especially since Snow had a lot of conflicting feelings & i’m still not sure if i like him.

  • Please do Haymitch

    By The_Flash13279
I have thought about how interesting Haymitches’ character was when I found out he went against 47 different tributes. Matter of fact he’s probably my 2nd favorite character. I REALLY want a book on him. But still super excited to read this! 😁 (4 stars cuz I haven’t read it yet but I think it’ll be great!)
  • I would give it 50 if I could.
