Brodie McGuire was a fearless, bold, skier who carried the weight of his country on his shoulders when he went for Olympic gold. But an accident wiped out his dreams. Now, he's following in the footsteps of his grandfather as a cop in his hometown of Whisper Lake. Surrounded by the mountains he once conquered, Brodie is trying to find a future that makes sense. But what doesn't make sense is a beautiful singer who chose to walk away from her dream.
Chelsea Cole was a country music singer on her way to the top when her music inspired a tragedy. Unable to face her fans or the spotlight, she went into hiding, reinventing herself as a music teacher. She wants a quiet life, free of drama and pain, and Brodie McGuire cannot be part of that life. He is loud and brash and has no respect for her boundaries. His sexy charm tempts her out of the cocoon she has wrapped herself in, but is more pain waiting?
Brodie wants Chelsea to find her voice, but if she does, will she be one more dream he has to give up?

  • Excellent read

Thrown together by a night cat capture. Brodie and Chelsea each finding their way through past turmoil, find the path to their future. There is arson, stalking, romance and the HEA ending. I did have problems finishing this book, not because there is a problem with the story, but there is nothing new here. As always, Barbara Freethy, writes an excellent story. Add this one to your list.
  • A great continuation of the Whisper Lake series!

The action started on the first page and followed up with a bit of a mystery throughout the book. This was a great story about Brodie and Chelsea overcoming obstacles and reinventing their lives. Along their journey they realize what is most important in life while they make decisions about their futures. I enjoyed the storylines of some of the other characters in the previous book in the series too. I loved the beginning of the book, and I thought the end of the story was so touching it made me tear up. I love the light humor Barbara puts in her writing and the small-town setting makes me feel part of the community. I definitely recommend this book, and look forward to the next book in the series.

ARC for honest review with no compensation My Wildest Dream is book 2 in the Whisper Lake series by Barbara Freethy about two people who were at the top of their careers then the unthinkable happens... Brodie McGuire, former Olympic hopeful, downhill skier is badly injured and Chelsea Cole, former country music superstar leave their high profile careers behind to start over in Whisper Lake. He as a cop and she as a music teacher. They end up working together to find an arsonist who is setting fires in vacant homes with the help of one of her young students along with an underlying story of whether small-town life is for them or will the past change their futures and put them on a totally different path apart? Only time will tell...
  • 5 star read. Loved it!

Barbara Freethy My Wildest Dream I am loving this Whisper Lake series. Chelsea and Brodie meet in a unique way in the middle of the night. Both have had success early in life but no longer gain pleasure from those activities. Their lives seem to “parallel” each other as they come to find out. Brodie has to work hard for Chelsea’s trust but as her past comes roaring back he becomes her go to person. This beautifully written book has the element of surprise and intrigue we have come to know from author Barbara Freethy. 5 stars for Brodie and Chelsea’s story and this new series.
