"I can't even express how much I love this book! I didn't want this story to end!"--Reese Witherspoon

"Painfully beautiful."--The New York Times Book Review

For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life--until the unthinkable happens.

Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

This book is outstanding. The narrative is fluid and gripping. The main characters are authentic and real. The setting is flawless and the descriptions are breathtaking. Besides all that, its just a really good book that kept me invested the whole way through. It is a little slow in the beginning but hangs in there its worth it.

I’m a huge romance novel reader, (guilty pleasure), and mysteries and this book has both. Not the gross romance. The author does a really good job at painting a picture in your mind of how the place looks, feels and sounds. Just beautifully written. Still think about the characters.

LOVED this book! Such a pleasure and a real page-turner. I didn’t want to put it down. I’ll admit, there were a few big surprises in it and I was stunned by a few things. I love how we see the community recognize their collective part in the live(s) of each individual. Beautiful!

A coming of age story from a perspective many can’t even imagine, myself included. Would highly recommend!

Often we are reminded of how little we know and understand. And then, as beautiful as life itself, we are gifted with yet another new insight into a world right in front of us. Owens’ Where The Crawdads Sing is just such a gift. This book grabbed me, held me, and touched me in a deep and personal way. The loneliness that lives among us, juxtaposed with the birdsong of life’s beauty, in every crevice of the simple shell to the makings of our justice system. I shall never look at a firefly the same again.
